About Me

Hi! I’m Amy.
I live in British Columbia, Canada with my husband, kids,
and a dog who looks like a mop.

I read, write and blog about character-driven science fiction,
or what I like to call “science fiction with heart.”

A Symphony of Starlight is my first book and I published it myself.

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME!

FUN FACT #1

I LOVE TO WRITE ACTION, BUT I’M THE OPPOSITE OF ATHLETIC

My characters accomplish death defying feats of athleticism, but in real life… I’m kind of a klutz.

As a kid I tried softball and my team lost every game except the one I missed. Another year I joined a soccer team and the same thing happened! Clearly, me+sports=epic fail.

To illustrate, I’m pictured above falling on my ass trying to sandboard on a trip to the Oregon Dunes.

My husband IS athletic like my characters. But I wrote the cliff climbing scene in Starlight BEFORE I found out that the new hobby he called “bouldering” was THE EXACT SAME THING I WAS WRITING ABOUT!

FUN FACT #2

EVERY STORY I’VE WRITTEN HAS INCLUDED A VIOLINIST

Starlight is my first published novel, but before I wrote Starlight I wrote a manuscript about an Edwardian pianist who finds out her real father is a vampire violinist who leads a troupe of bohemian bloodsuckers.

Maybe violinists keep popping up in my stories because they’re such a big part of my life. My kids and husband are all learning violin, so I’m always surrounded by music.

By the way, aren’t my babies adorable??? Above they’re pictured when they were teeeeensy. Little bro is trying to copy big bro with his toy violin.

I don’t play violin, but I do love music. I play the piano terribly but with much gusto.

Sometimes I dress up as my favourite rock stars and record myself playing my awful renditions of their songs. Can you tell who I am here?

Hint: that’s whisky in the jar behind me 😉

FUN FACT #3

I STAYED IN A MANSION WITH A GROUP OF STRANGE WRITERS…

…AND IT DIDN’T TURN INTO A MURDER MYSTERY!

In 2023 I got to go to Montreal to meet my online writing group in person, including some of my favourite authors!

We were a group of strangers who had only met each other online, and we stayed in an old mansion that was once a girls’ school run by nuns. Surprisingly, it didn’t turn into a murder mystery!

I may have almost keeled over due to being star struck by so many of my favourite writers, though! In the group photo above you can see some of them: Sue Catalano, Kim DeRose and Laini Taylor! And many more soon-to-be published amazing authors, too!

NO BIG DEAL OR ANYTHING!
