Okay, so like I said in my review of Only Bad Options, I’m loving the Galactic Bonds series so much that I’ve blasted through books one through three all in one week!
So to catch up on my Weekly Reads, I’ll try to review Book Two today and Book Three tomorrow.
But if anything tells you a series is worth reading, it’s when someone says they devoured all the books in one sitting. Which I did. So there you go.
Only Good Enemies continues the story of Vesper Quill, and inventor who uses her seer magic to build and fix intriguing sci-fi tech, and Lord Kyrion Calderon, leader of the emperor’s elite assassins. Vesper has no love for the evil emperor or the Regals who support his rule, so when she and Regal Kyrion form a magical bond, Vesper isn’t happy. Although she comes to second-guess her initial impression of Kyrion, she tricks Kyrion into believing the bond has been broken at the end of the book.
Only Bad Options picks up three months later, again narrated alternately by Vesper and Kyrion.
After three months apart, both Kyrion and Vesper can’t stop thinking about each other, and when Vesper is kidnapped by the Techwave and Kyrion is tasked with rescuing her, it’s obvious their reunion is meant to be. But Kyrion’s evil boss Emperor Callus Holloway, has secretly sent another group of Arrows to follow Kyrion and drag him and Vesper back to Corios.
This book contains less Regal preening and more sci-fi action than Book One, but we get to see another side of high society life when Vesper and Kyrion infiltrate a resort on a tropical, Erzston-controlled planet.
Our secondary characters are further developed, including a fun new dynamic with my fave side character Zane Zimmer. (I’ll save my thoughts on that dynamic for my review of Only Hard Problems!) And Vesper’s interaction with Lady Nerezza, the mother who abandoned her, is truly satisfying.
But of course, the best part of this book is seeing Kyrion and Vesper confront their continued feelings for one another.
SPOILER ALERT: As the romance between Kyrion and Vesper heats up, we finally get a kissing scene. And yes, this book does contain a sex scene, too (I won’t tell you where!)
But our favourite Truebonded couple’s problems are far from over.
The next book in the series switches perspectives so that we see the the next few weeks from Zane’s perspective (truly a treat!) but the fourth book of the series, Only Cold Depths–on preorder now–is set to continue Vesper’s and Kyrion’s adventure from the couple’s point of view.
I can’t wait to continue their adventure this fall! For now, read on for my review of Galactic Bonds Book Three, Only Hard Problems.
